A Legacy of Innovation
The story of Melaleuca is one of constant innovation on all fronts, including product development, process improvement, and technology infrastructure to become one of the largest e-commerce companies in North America.
In 2020, Melaleuca CEO Frank VanderSloot was inducted into the Idaho Technology Hall of Fame in recognition of The Wellness Company’s scientific breakthroughs in developing exclusive natural products and becoming the state’s largest e-commerce company. With his induction into the Hall of Fame, Frank joined the ranks of tech entrepreneurs who have demonstrated success creating new systems, embracing emerging technologies, and solving problems using disruptive innovation.
Melaleuca relies on cutting-edge scientific research to identify and amplify the many benefits of naturally-based ingredients and uses those discoveries to create products that outperform national brands. In almost all cases, The Wellness Company finds natural ingredients to be the best, most effective, and healthiest alternative.
Before Melaleuca decides to bring a product to market, the company must first be convinced that it is either (1) a much better product than the competitors or (2) it can be delivered in equal or better quality at a much better price. If it does not meet either of those criteria, Melaleuca won’t sell it.
Environmental Advocacy
Nature is in everything we do. Because the environment is so important to our health, Melaleuca’s philosophy on how to create and maintain a clean environment inside and outside the home is totally different than that of our competitors.
Melaleuca uses only safe, proven, and trusted ingredients—nothing harsh or toxic. As a company that cares deeply about the environment and relies on innovative scientific research to identify and amplify the many benefits of natural-based ingredients, we believe that natural, biodegradable ingredients can provide the same or better cleaning effectiveness as harsh, harmful chemicals—without doing any damage whatsoever to the environment inside our homes, and without doing any damage to our streams and oceans once we dispose of them.
Another way that Melaleuca demonstrates its care for the environment is by creating formulations that are far more concentrated and therefore saving millions of pounds of plastic. For example, one bottle of our concentrated product makes twelve spray bottles of power cleaner, and that means less plastic waste, less product shipped, and more savings for the customer. By manufacturing concentrated products—which reduces the need to produce, ship, and dispose of plastic—Melaleuca has saved the environment from more than 260 million pounds of plastic waste, 45 million gallons of fuel consumption and 1.4 billion pounds of harmful gas emissions.
Philanthropy
The Melaleuca Foundation was created as a charitable arm for Melaleuca to reach out and enhance the lives of those most in need.
The Foundation was created in 2001 in the devastating aftermath of the September 11 attacks, when it raised and donated more than $800,000 to aid several individuals who had fallen through the cracks after the tragedy and were in need of financial support.
Since that time, the Melaleuca Foundation has expanded and has continued to do good where good is needed. It actively supports a range of worthy causes including feeding the hungry, providing relief after natural disasters, and honoring our veterans. It is also the sole financial sponsor of a special orphanage in Quito, Ecuador.
